Shetland ministry

When asking my soon to be, travel companion, Maria, what her home- land (Shetland) was like, she described the people as warm, friendly and hospitable. “Oh I exclaimed – you mean its like Philippines in the cold. I shall feel very much at home then.”

Within a month Maria and I and her family were making the arduous two day journey which included fifteen hours driving and fourteen hours on a north sea ferry. We arrived at Lerwick, Shetlands capital praising God for a smooth crossing.

What a wonderful place. I would describe the countryside as being like Dartmoor, by the sea; stunning scenery, gorgeous un-crowded beaches (although despite being August. I wasn’t tempted into the water as I would have been in the Philippines, due to the temperature). Yes, I did find the people open, warm hearted and hospitable and so gossiping the gospel was not difficult.

My public ministry consisted of two meetings with Lerwick AOG and one at Girlsta Methodist Church, and some help with the local ‘Healing Rooms’ Team at one of the shows. Praise the Lord, a few souls were saved and back sliders restored. Several healings took place including one guy who had suffered with a back injury and was about to start a weeks probation work on a building site. This man testified that God had completely healed him and was offered the job. There was also a wonderful move of the Holy Spirit and many were touched by his power including one guy who, having been slain by the Spirit, and was out for about fifteen minutes. His wife was laughing so I said “Why are you laughing?” She said “My husband is a boxer and has never been knocked out before tonight!” Praise the Lord!

Plans are already being made for my return visit next year and I want to give a big thank you to Shetland for their wonderful hospitality and welcome they gave me, especially Magnus and Eunice for kindly putting me up, Emmanuel AOG Church, for their invitation to preach and support , those that kindly contributed to make this mission possible and not forgetting Maria who kindly introduced me to the people of her homeland SHETLAND !

God bless
